Abstract
A fuel cell (FC) stack consists of a widerange of materials, including various types of mechanical elements and electronicparts. In particular, the power generation cells inside the FC use many materialsthat are not found in conventional vehicle parts. In contrast to thedevelopment of previous fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), which prioritized efforts toenhance the functional performance of the FC stack, the new mass-productionMirai FCV was developed as a normal industrial product with an emphasis on bothperformance and the applicability of manufacturing methods. This articledescribes several examples of continuous and sheet-by-sheet manufacturingmethods adopted in accordance with material characteristics to ensure highquality and productivity while reducing cost.
